VoIP Selection Course

Summary

Available: Classroom

Level: Intermediate Level

Duration: Classroom - 2 Days

Cost: Classroom - £995 plus VAT

Overview

The VoIP Selection course is designed to cover all aspects of voice and data convergence from the business case to the practical implementation.

Voice over IP (VoIP) and IP Telephony (IPT) have now moved from a "future" to a reality, which increasing numbers of organisations are implementing.

Suppliers claim that considerable savings are possible and this is, in some cases, true. However, there are also lots of limitations and problems to be considered.

The course includes a detailed cost and Return on Investment (ROI) analysis. Following the course, delegates should be able to analyse the potential for savings within their own organisation.

The course also includes a full explanation of the terminology and "soft" benefits of implementing IP Voice technology as part of a business strategy.

The course considers the practical issues and provides an overview of the suppliers in the market and their products.

The course turns the hype of VoIP/IPT into reality and is ideally suited to anyone considering the potential of the technology within their organisations.

Content

The VoIP Selection course explains how VoIP technology operates, analyses the business case and compares the major products in the market. The course has three main themes: i) What is VoIP and what is the business case?, ii) How does VoIP operate and what are the problems? iii) What are the major products in the market and how do they compare?

Firstly the course looks at VoIP as a technology and the advantages and limitations. The course compares VoIP with traditional TDM approaches and considers the business case in detail. The course also considers different business environments and how the VoIP cost case differs.

The review of VoIP technology explains in detail how a system works. This includes an explanation of the resilience of VoIP systems, disaster recovery planning and other applications such as voice mail. This includes a detailed explanation of media gateways and signalling servers and explains how VoIP systems integrate with the data network. The content is all explained in plain English and no prior knowledge of voice or data technologies is assumed.

Finally, the course compares the different major products on the market including Cisco, Nortel and Avaya. This review considers the target markets of the different products, how the technologies compare and the pros and cons of each.
