Advanced Communications follows on from the introductory course and develops the theory and practice of how different technologies operate. The information continues to be explained in a simple and easy to follow format.
More advanced concepts such as the design of voice, data and integrated networks, network management, performance analysis and the role of different items of technology are included. The course also concentrates on the potential business benefits of different types of technological approach and the typical cost advantages and implications.
The final section of this highly informative course details the convergence of voice & data and covers IP Telephony and Voice over IP.
The course is designed for those looking to develop their existing knowledge or to update and refresh their knowledge.
Content
The course starts with a detailed look at voice communications systems and considers how a sound, such as the human voice, is translated into a digital signal. This information is then used to understand a range of voice systems including TDM and VoIP. The module explains in detail, how these systems operate, common problems and how the technology is developing.
The second module of the course considers Datacomms and the manner in which both local and wide area networks operate. The module explains technologies such as routers, switches, IP addressing, TCP/IP and network topologies. The content includes details of how the systems operate, the product manufacturers and what is happening in the market.
The mobility section of the course considers mobile voice communications and, critically, mobile data and looks at technologies such as GPRS, 3G, WiFi and high speed data. The course considers how mobile devices such as Blackberry's operate and the advantages and limitations of these technologies.
With so much of modern communications based on the Internet, the course includes a detailed look at Internet based technologies, routing and the associated problems for both voice and data. This module includes an explanation of different routing and other protocols.
The purpose of the communications infrastructure is to support business objectives and the course considers how comms and the business integrate. For example, support organisations have been completely changed because of communications and Internet technologies.
Finally, the course considers convergence and all the different aspects of technology coming together. This area includes technologies such as SIP, VoIP, Video, and mobile voice and data.
